A valley of outstanding natural beauty

The Val Fiscalina in Sesto may only be 4.5 km long but it is an area of outstanding natural beauty: Surrounded by flower meadows, thick woods, rustic pastures and the impressive rock formations of this UNESCO World Heritage of the Dolomites. The Val Fiscalina leads from the village of Moso through the 3 Peaks nature park to the Rifugio Fondo Valle hut. The valley affords a unique view to the Sesto sundial and is an ideal starting point for many hikes.

In the winter the Val Fiscalina is a popular destination for snowshoe hikers and those on ski tours, in the summer it is an attraction for hikers and walkers.

Sesto larch meadows
At the entrance to the Val Fiscalina valley are idyllic meadows with an abundance of larches. Also above the housing line at the slopes on the Monte Elmo a broad belt of larches separates the highest farms from the upper tree line. The larch meadows are particularly attractive during the flowering season. In the early summer there are crocuses, later flowers include primulae and gentian. In the summer you find bright Turk's cap lilies, columbines and arnica flowers among the meadow flowers. The growing cycle ends in late summer with the flowering of the autumn crocuses. In the weather-beaten wooden sheds between the larch trees the farmers store the sweet smelling mountain hay.
