Recommendable stopovers along your bike tour
Stop-by for the following highlights
Combine a biking tour with wonderful experiences to explore the most beautiful
highlights in the Three Peaks in the Dolomites.
Lago di Dobbiaco/Toblacher See Lake in Dobbiaco/Toblach
The Lago di Dobbiaco Lake is located in the Val di Landro Valley, which connects Dobbiaco with the former Olympic town of Cortina. The lake is one of the few wetlands of South Tyrol and is part of the nature park Fanes-Sennes-Braies. It offers a big variety of flora and is an ideal resting and nesting place for water birds.
Take the chance to ride around the lake by bike, to have a rest and watch the birds.
The Grand Hotel is located in the middle of a picturesque park. Thanks to the construction of the Southern Railway from Lienz to Fortezza at the end of the 19th century Europe’s moneyed aristocracy and high nobility came to the Alta Pusteria valley for summer retreat, especially to the Grand Hotel that opened in 1978.
more information
During the First World War, the hotel was converted into a military hospital. After the war, it changed hands and it became more and more stunted. The South Tyrolean local Government started big renovation works and the construction of a culture centre in 1991. Today the former Grand Hotel hosts the "Gustav Mahler hall” with excellent acoustics, 460 available seats, the Nature park house Drei Zinnen/Tre Cime, a culture and congress centre, a top-class restaurant and further facilities.

Lago di Braies/Pragser Wildsee Lake
The Lago di Braies Lake is located in a picturesque natural landscape in the Valle di Braies Valley. The lake is the biggest (31 ha) and deepest (36 m/118 ft) natural lake of the Dolomites, which bewitches its visitors with a wonderful mountain scenery and a stunning colour spectrum from deep green to dark blue.
more information
For some years now, the Lago di Braies Lake has been acting as film scenery for the Italian TV serial “Un passo dal cielo” featuring Terence Hill. Visitors can reach the lake along the cycle path through the Valle di Braies Valley. Have a rest along the way, enjoy the view, go for a pleasant cooling of your feet and take the whole walkabout around the lake. A little trip on a rowing boat crossing the lake is also big fun!

Prato Piazza/Plätzwiese Plateau
The Prato Piazza is an alpine plateau located on 2,000 m (6,561 ft) with a stunning view on the peaks of the Dolomites as the Croda Rossa d’Ampezzo, Monte Cristallo and Tofane. The plateau is an authentic gem in the Dolomites and offers originality and naturalness. You can reach the alpine plateau through the Valle di Braies Valley. A MTB tour is absolutely recommendable.
View of the Three Peaks
Enjoy the unique view of the Three Peaks, on the way from Dobbiaco into the Val di Landro Valley, stopping by at Landro. Thanks to the telescope on site free of charge, a glance through it makes you feel even closer to the Three Peaks and the alpine happenings!
Kneipp Park
The five-hectare big Kneipp Park is located in the middle of Villabassa. Its facilities offer a series of treatments as for example, arm and face bathing, water treading, dew treading, mudpacks and other Kneipp treatments. A barefoot trail, an outdoor inhalation site and pavilions for drinking strengthen the park visitors’ awareness for body and health.
more information
The Kneipp Park offers much more, and it is a paradise especially for children: on the playground, young visitors have big fun – the Adventureland offers pure action for older children. After some time of games and fun, it is possible to deepen one’s knowledge on flora and fauna along the botanical educational trail. In addition, visitors can prepare their favourite food using the BBQ places in the park.

WaldWunderWelt
The WaldWunderWelt in Dobbiaco is an instructive playground especially close to nature. A platform made of wood is the central element of the WaldWunderWelt, from where radially located root lines indicate the way outwards to the next stations: trees to climb, a woodpecker tree, an otter slide, a birds’ nest, a high jump pit, a barefoot trail, and many more.
more information
A geological station, a Celtic tree horoscope and different charts offer moreover lots of interesting information and facts about the forest, the forest soil, animal traces and mushrooms. From the WaldWunderWelt it is certainly worth to go for a side trip to the Grand Hotel.

War cemetery in Dobbiaco/Toblach
During World War I Austrians fought against Italians in the Dolomiti di Sesto. Behind the Croda dell’Acqua rock there used to be the military hospital and the main first aid area of the Austrians. Those who died here were buried immediately, regardless of their origins and nationality, on the field directly next to it: in such manner, the war cemetery Sorgenti originated.
more information
When South Tyrol was annexed to Italy, the Italian military merged the many small war cemeteries to a few bigger ones. Between 1926 and 1938 those killed in action were moved. „Germans” were removed from the war cemetery Sorgenti, the remains of those of other nationalities finally rested in peace in this cemetery – 1,259 soldiers in total.
