3 Peaks nature park
The 3 Peaks nature park comprises an area of 11,635 hectares across the parishes of San Candido, Sesto and Dobbiaco. The beautiful natural landscape that is the north-eastern corner of the Dolomites is framed by the holiday region Three Peaks/3 Zinnen in the Dolomites in the North, the Sesto valley in the East, the country border to Belluno in the South and the Val di Landro in the West. Since 2009 the Three Peaks nature park has been part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage. Natura 2000 area Sesto Dolomites nature park
Parts of the Three Peaks nature park are also part of the Natura 2000 area and enjoy special protection due to their special location and the type of species that populate them. Among the wildlife the Aesculapian snake and the alpine salamander are protected species. Among the flora species such as the Dolomite columbine and the rampion are protected.

Natural 2000 area Monte Covolo – Alpe di Nemes biotope
A further Natura 2000 area in Sesto is the 227 hectare large nature reserve Monte Covolo - Alpe di Nemes biotope above the Passo Monte Croce saddle. The vegetation of this wetland habitat is interesting and of ecological value, the wildlife is rich in species.
