Nature park Fanes-Senes-Braies

Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage

The nature park Fanes-Senes-Prags (Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage) covers an area of over 25,000 hectares spread across the municipalities of Abtei/Badia, Prags/Braies, Toblach/Dobbiaco, Wengen/La Valle, St. Vigil/Marebbe and Olang/Valdaora. It is framed by the Pustertal valley to the north and the South Tyrolean border to the south. Its western regions extend almost as far as the Val Badia valley. The Landro valley forms the eastern border to the Sextner Dolomites with the 3 Peaks nature park.

The region delights with dense forests, high rock faces, the karstified plateaus of Fanes and Senes and the expansive pastures and colourful mountain meadows. The protected area also includes several lakes: Pragser Wildsee lake and Lake Toblach are two of the most well-known natural lakes in South Tyrol.

Since 2009 the Fanes-Senes-Prags nature park has been part of the Dolomites UNESCO World Heritage and belongs to the European network of nature reserves Natura 2000, which focuses on protecting the habitats of wild animals and plants.
